Happy Thanksgiving, Friends! This holiday for me is all about gratitude, spending time with people that I love, and eating delicious food. And I’m wishing the same for you!
I’d like to just take a moment and express my gratitude for you, this community here at the Love List. I started this newsletter back in 2015 and its honestly the most consistent thing I’ve ever done in my life, ha! So much in my life and my career has changed since then, and I am thankful that I have a safe space to connect and share my life and the objects and travel and food that bring me joy. Thank you for all of your support in the comment sections, not just with me but with each other. So much of the internet can feel scary, so I love this corner of encouragement and love that we’ve created here. ❤️
Of course this holiday season feels even more monumental because now I’m a MOM. This season I keep thinking about traditions and routines and consistency for Skylar. There are so many aspects of our lives that change whether we want it to or not, so to create these small consistencies and traditions as a family feels important. It feels steady, stable, intentional, and grounding. All of our senses are involved when we talk about traditions. For Thanksgiving, its the smell of the stuffing in the oven, and sounds of music and loud conversation around the room, the taste of sweetness in the mashed yams with roasted marshmellows on top, and the feel of the relatively scratchy sweater that only comes out around this time of year. Everyone has their preferences and I find its mostly based on their own family traditions. I think back to the show “Friends” during their thanksgiving episode where everyone disagrees on how mashed potatoes should be made. Monica ends up making three different types of mashed potatoes to please everyone: Lumpy mashed potatoes for Ross, whipped potatoes with peas and onions for Phoebe, and tater tots for Joey. (Yes I had to Google that to make sure I had it correct.) It just goes to show how impactful and memorable these meals and moments can be. What is the dish that Skylar is going to demand be made at every Thanksgiving when she’s an adult? 🥹
I’m sharing some photos below of life lately but as a tradition I wanted to share my Thanksgiving Dinner Playlist with you again this year. Each year I add a few songs to it, but its packed with some classics and some new songs as well. Nothing like music to bring people together. My hope is that you and your family enjoy listening to it while sharing some delicious food and loving conversation.
